When Should You Start Cutting

With summer just around the corner many of us want to lean up and get “cut”. Not so fast, you may be starting your “cut” too early or even too late.

Many people start “cutting” too early which results in a skinny frame lacking muscle. Other people wait too long until they start “cutting”, which results in a long hard 6-12 months of dieting. Believe it or not, there is a certain “sweet spot” at which you should switch from a bulk to a cut.

If you can relate to any of the following, it may be time to start cutting:

1. Your Pants Feel To Tight

Bulking for too long can result in significant fat gain around the hips, waist and thighs. If you feel that your pants are too tight and you need to buy larger sizes, it’s definitely time to cut.

2. Your Face Looks Bloated

Water retention, especially in combination with facial fat leads to a bloated look. During a bulk you’re consuming a large amount of carbohydrates, which causes water retention and in combination with the excess fat gained during a bulk can cause a bloated looking face.

If you feel like your face is overly bloated and puffy, go on a cut. When you drop down to a low body fat percentage your face will appear a lot more leaner and defined.

3. Your Starting To Look Like You Don’t Lift Weights

If you add too much fat during a bulk it will show, you will lose vascularity, muscle definition and any striations. You will start to look soft and chubby as opposed to hard and muscular.

4. Your Getting Very Loose With Your Nutrition

While bulking, most people seem to forget that nutrition is 80% of the battle and they go eat everything in sight. If your losing control of what your eating, go on a cut it will help re-discipline you.

5. Your Starting To Develop Man Boobs

Excess fat in males leads to an increased estrogen production, which may lead to “man boobs”. “Man boobs” are common in men above 20% body fat.

6. Your Just Unhappy With Your Body

The #1 reason why you should go on a cut is if you don’t like the way you look in the mirror and you feel if you lost excess fat it would make you look better and feel better about yourself.
