Common Signs Of A Nutrient Deficiency

Just like a new-born baby, our body speaks to us in signals. Have you ever noticed that a baby cries when something goes wrong or when they want something? Similarly, when our body faces a nutrient deficiency it tells us through various symptoms.

If you have any of the following symptoms immediate action is required. You need to look for these symptoms and take corrective measures as soon as possible.

Let’s look at some of the signs of a nutrient deficiency:

Poor Vision

Glasses and eye problems are common nowadays due to a Vitamin A deficiency. The deficiency could also lead to poor night vision among many people. In some cases it has been found that the deficiency of Vitamin A reduces the healing process of wounds as well.

Almost all of us have gone through horrible periods of acne. During adolescence, the incidences of acne is quite frequent. Acne actually results from a deficiency of Potassium and Pyridoxine or Vitamin B6. About 71% of females are believed to suffer from a deficiency of Pyridoxine.

Cracked Lips

The cracking of the corners of the mouth and lips is a sign of being deficient in Vitamins B2, B6 and folic acid. The deficiency of Vitamin B6 can also cause mouth ulcers.

White Spots on Nails

White spots of the nails or opaque nails are signs of a zinc or Vitamin B6 deficiency.

Cramps can be felt at anytime of a day. Muscle cramps can be a sign of calcium deficiency. Tooth decay, osteoporosis and rickets in kids also develop because of this deficiency.

If you get fatigued quite easily it could mean you have a nutrient deficiency. Fatigue is yet again a sign of Chromium, Copper, Folic acid, Iodine and Vitamin B5 deficiency.

An Upset Stomach

An upset stomach can be a sign of deficiency of Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B1. During the deficiency of Vitamin B6 and B1 the appetite of a person reduces significantly and may lead to weight loss, nausea, gastric upset or stomach upset.
If you eat a nutrient rich diet then these symptoms and illnesses can be prevented. However, in some cases even a great diet fails to meet the body’s requirements, in that case supplements and a doctors advice should be taken.

Ignoring early signs may lead to serious diseases. A proper diet is the key to maintain a healthy body and mind. Green vegetables, rice, fruits, and citrus fruits will help you meet your daily nutritional requirements.
